Discussion of the 2008 Truck Driving Championships

The Oklahoma Trucking Association is proud to announce the 2008 Wilburn Williamson Memorial Scholarship.

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one qualified applicant chosen by a third party panel. The qualifications for the scholarship include:

• Child or grandchild of an employee of an OTA member company
• High school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
• High school Senior
• Enrolled, or plan to enroll, at a university or college for the 2008 Fall semester (proof of enrollment will be required if the applicant is chosen to receive the scholarship)
• All required documents including:

o High School Transcript
o 1 page typed essay (Topic: Goals I Wish to Achieve After Completing College)
o Completed application

Applications will be judged by a third party and only properly completed applications and documents post marked by the deadline will be considered. The winner will be notified by the Oklahoma Trucking Association after judging is completed.

Taught by an ASE Master Certified Diesel Instructor, this course will cover the importance of good inspection and preventive maintenance procedures. The students will learn federal regulations, and the necessity of keeping correct documentation. All aspects of the vehicle will be covered. The cost to participate will be $20.00.

This event will give the opportunity for truck technicians to show off their skills and win prizes.

The event will begin Saturday June 7th at 8.00 AM with a written test similar to an ASE test. The top scores in the written test will then be asked to participate in the hands-on skills portion of the championship. In this portion of the championship the technicians will be required to work a series of stations coving major components of a typical truck such as,

1. electrical
2. wheel ends
3. preventive maintenance
4. clutch and driveline
5. heating and air conditioning
6. failure analysis
7. engine diagnoses

The scores from the written test and skills demonstration stations will be used to determine the winners.

The TMC will award prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

The 1st place winner will then have the opportunity to compete as the Oklahoma Champion in the TMC National Skills Championship in September in Nashville, TN.

The deadline for registering for the championship is May 17.
