Oklahoma Safety Management Council
The Oklahoma Safety Management Council (OSMC) meets ten times per year. This group of safety professionals co-sponsors the Fleet Safety Contest for OTA member carriers as well as the Million Mile Driver and Professional Driver Awards. OSMC also organizes and produces the Oklahoma State Truck Driving Championships each year. In November, the Council hosts a two-day seminar covering such topics as workers' compensation update, fire safety, log auditing, FHWA updates, hazardous materials compliance and practical suggestions for reducing accidents and incidents. Dues are $150 per year. OTA members receive a discounted dues rate.

Each year the Oklahoma Trucking Association and the Oklahoma Safety Management Council hold the State Truck Driving Championships. This two-day event promotes excellence in trucking and allows the industry to showcase its dedication to maintaining its greatest resource--professional drivers. Held the first Friday & Saturday in June, the competition is open to the public.

Each year the OTA and OSMC solicit nominations for their annual Safety Awards. The Fleet Awards go to the companies with the best accident frequency in three mileage classifications in four carrier classifications. The Grand Trophy Winner is selected based on a complete safety program. Also, member company drivers are honored for their outstanding performance with the Million Mile Award and Professional Driver Award. Drivers with a million miles of safe driving (no preventable accidents) receive our Million Mile Award. Each additional million miles make the driver eligible for another award. Professional Driver Award winners are selected from nominations received for OTA member companies. Eligibility for a Professional Driver Award can be accomplished through safe driving, community service, participation in state/national driving championships and acts of heroism. A distinguished panel of judges selects 12 Professional Drivers. Out of those 12, one driver is singled out as Oklahoma's Driver of the Year.
